The Mercedes-Benz W 196 R racing car, designed for the 1954 and 1955 Formula One seasons, met all the requirements for the new changes: an increased engine capacity of 750cc with or 2500cc without supercharger, free choice of fuel mixture, and a racing distance of 300 kilometres or a minimum of three hours. This classic “silver arrow” was a masterpiece that won nine of twelve races entered between Argentine driver Juan Manuel Fangio ​and British Sterling Moss.
